Trying out XYplorer and love it!! One question is how do I get pdf thumbnails?? Its says its supported and i get thumbnails in windows explorer okay, but not in XY?? I have tried it with both foxit and PDFXchange (which both generate thumbnails) Does it only work with Adobe reader installed??

Using Vista

Welcome!

Do you have .PDF checked in Configuration | Previewed Formats | Web & Office files?

It should be enough if Configuration | Thumbnails | Enable shell thumbnails is ticked.

If it still does not work it my be a bitness-caused problem. Are you on 64-bit Windows?

Thanks for getting back. Yes I have the .pdf ticked and its set in preview for the enabled shell. I'm on vista 32bit. Funnily enough i tried it on my windows 7 (32bit) and it still dosent show thumbnails, but again it does in windows explorer - I have foxit installed on that machine. Thats why i was wondering if it has to have adobe reader ( dont like adobe's bloadtware so never normally put it on - but might try it and see)

Cheers

Just to say I tried installing adobe reader and thumbnails now working. What a shame as I really didnt want to install adobe would rather use foxit or pdfxchange. Any way to get these to work with XY?? they work with the shell in windows..

Thanks

Basically you need a so-called "shell extension" (and it must be a 32-bit one) that creates thumbnails from PDFs. Adobe installs one for you when you install Adobe, but there are other ones/ways. I'm not into this deep enough to give you a good recommendation off my head now -- maybe somebody else has a tip.

Have a look at PDF-XChange Viewer from Tracker Software. The free version's Shell Extensions work well with XY sans all the Adobe bloat.

If you do much with PDF's evaluate the paid version; it really makes them sing and dance! (Have been a registered user three years.) :D

Then i must be doing something wrong as I have PDF viewer on and it works fine in Windows explorer with thumbnails showing nicely but nothing in XY.... Checked all settings and they should be there. Can only get thumbs in XY to work with adobe installed and set to default pdf program.

I had Adobe first, and PDF-XChange Viewer 2.052 now (for 1.5 years). Adobe is uninstalled. PDF thumbnails works great here. I did not do anything special. Just installed PDF-XChange Viewer. :?
