XY rendered unusable during file transfer (Windows 7 64-bit)

I have been reading another post regarding this issue, titled "Freeze during copying on Vista 32-bit", and I am afraid this problem is a bit of a show stopper for me, as I frequently move large files and folders from one location to another. During the copy or move, the software cannot be used at all. As the other user stated, it simply freezes, although still continuing with the transfer.
In this other thread, it keeps stating that this is only a problem on Vista 32-bit systems. I am running Windows 7 64-bit, and this problem is a live and well. I do not wish to have to use windows explorer to continue having function of my file manager while a transfer is taking place, but there isn't much of an option. This involves both copying and moving.
This is the only major issue I have with this program, but it's a big enough one for me to stop using it if no resolution can be found. This is such a basic function of a file manager in general, I have to say it is surprising this has been an unresolved issue for apparently a very long time now.

This was a bone of contention for some time, but has been fully remedied with the advent of background processing. By enabling Configuration > File Operations > Background Processing > Enable background processing, and applying it to all operations, file operations are (as the tin metions :)) backgrounded, i.e. they don't block the main window any more.

Could you post a link to this thread? AFAIK this has been a problem for all Windows versions after XP, whether 32- or 64-bit.

Background processing is already enabled and applied for all file operations. I set that in configuration right from the start.

Here is the link to the thread with this discussion.

Background processing is already enabled and applied for all file operations. I set that in configuration right from the start.
That's very strange. The one thing you could try, assuming you have parallel transfers, is to enable Configuration > File Operations > Queue file operations, as well.

That seems to be the original thread that eventually lead to XYcopy 1.0 with background processing.

Do post again please if enabling queueing doesn't fix this; based on the lack of problem reports since background processing, this was assumed to be a fixed problem.

I've had the same issues using Win7x64. Even using Background Copy Service, I think it had issues communicating with its service once it was doing its thing on a nasty slow VPN share.

I ended up killing the processes, and doing the copy on the command line.

@Xtreme and JDługosz: Do you have both XYplorer.exe as well as XYcopy.exe, excluded from your security software's real-time/on-access scanning?

This problem happens to me periodically as well. I am also using Windows 7 64-bit but I've always had background processing and queue operations enabled. When it occurs I have to kill both XYplorer and Xcopy.

Interesting suggestion, but I don't see any way to exclude specific programs with Norton Internet Security Suite 2011. If anybody knows, I'd love to hear it. Thanks

This post (with screenshots) seems helpful.

Hmm... Well ok, for what it's worth, I added my Xyplorer.exe and Xcopy.exe paths under Items to Exclude from Auto-Protect and SONAR Detection. But I'm a little dubious that this is really going to do what we want, because Norton is probably intercepting the file accesses at a lower level and doesn't necessarily know/care about the program actually doing the copying.

Do let us know whether it makes a difference!

FWIW, I know of at least one forum regular who uses Norton with Windows 7 x64 and having excluded XYplorer.exe and XYcopy.exe, doesn't report this problem.

Ok, will do. Though, I don't really encounter this problem all that often and I am using XYplorer all the time. I just added my problem report to the mix when I saw the thread.

[/quote] I have added xyplorer.exe and xycopy.exe to my F-Secure Antivirus 2011. No other real-time scanning software on my system. I tested afterwards by moving, then copying a 9GB file. The problem still exists.
Thanks for the suggestion though, appreciated.

@Xtreme: Could you just give info *how* you initiate the copy, i.e.by drag and drop (inside one XY), by ctrl-c / ctrl-v, ...?

Yes, actually I have been trying different things. The problem can be repeated by dragging from one pane to another to copy or move, by dragging to a folder in the catalog, or by right clicking and choosing to either copy to folder, or move to folder. If I use the shortcuts ctrl+c, ctrl+x, or ctrl+v, all works as it should and background processing leaves the program functional to continue with other operations.

Do you have Configuration > Extended > Custom drag and drop context menu, enabled? If not, could you try again with that setting enabled?
