Breadcrumb isn't useful in this form. however It would be much better by a small improvement. Breadcrumb menu items (folders) should be menus as well, showing the folder structure under the corresponding folder. In that way it would be easy to navigate, for example from "c:\aaa\bbb\ccc\ddd" to "c:\aaa\eee" beacuse "eee" folder is in the "c:\aaa" submenu.
Plus when I press the Ctrl-Backspace shortcut, breadcrumb menu should appear at the mouse cursor position, not in the top left corner.
Breadcrumb small improvement
Re: Breadcrumb small improvement
Unfortunately this has been requested many times, but apparently Don prefers the way the "path list" dialog works over breadcrumbs, so I doubt it's going to happen. That's just my speculation of course
.
As I've mentioned before, I think the problem is partially that when I see the term breadcrumb I expect a certain set of navigational features, which the "path list" that XY has does not provide. It's handy if you're only using the keyboard though, I imagine.

Ok, understand. However, the file manager is my most used software on my computer, and I would appreciate a way of navigate in the file system fast, and by relatively few mouse click. It seemed as a good solution... Mini tree is really good, but not too fast when I have to navigate to folder which is not in the tree already.

I'll throw in (from another thread) what is becoming my standard reply to this type of thread:
j_c_hallgren wrote:This has been asked for many times in slightly different wording over the years and as Stephan suggested, look for "breadcrumb" but also "vista address"...and because there have been SO many threads, it's hard to point to one without it being a 'link to a link' etc as in http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic. ... 170#p49170
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!

I can imagine how angry Don was when he saw my post... OK, I try to use mini tree instead, but I'm waiting for an answer about that in another topic.

Having been here for a few years, I don't think Don would even be offended by your post...one sure way to get him irritated is to post a list of a dozen items that you want added/changed as your very first post here, with some of those items being things already available.LittleBiG wrote:I can imagine how angry Don was when he saw my post...
But he (and we) would appreciate attempting to do a search for prior threads similar and possibly reopening the most relevant one instead of creating a new thread...makes things cleaner here.

@j_c_hallgren - opps... I think I just did that. Posted a suggestion (still a good one) about highlighting recently used folders. BUT mini tree (seen here) may be an answer.
XY does Sooo much it's overwhelming.
BTW, when my customers (I write commercial software) make suggestions like that on the phone I like to type loudly for a few seconds and say "just a second.... working on it....OK it's done. Try it out" <g>

I vote for what the original poster said. I think it's an important necessary feature. Some people don't use Trees and use 2 panes.
Re: Breadcrumb small improvement
May i too, cast my vote on this one?
I've been trying out several file managers the past week or so and the implementation i like the most is that of windows explorer and explorer2. (No disrespect meant sirs, i know i'm posting in the xyplorer forum
)
I too never use trees. So if i'm gonna be using xy in the long run i'd probably be relying on the catalogue. Or toolbar buttons for bookmarks.
Wish they can display text labels though. Trying to find and then assigning an icon for a bookmarked folder and remembering which one points to which is hard for me. I get impatient waiting for the tooltip too. But that's just me. Nothing major.
Thanks
