Search results tab - help needed

I'm unsure how to get what I'm after from search results. Help please? :)

When I do a search, I often manipulate the files in the results (for instance, rename this file, delete that file, open the other file in a new tab).

I like and appreciate that the search location is set by just clicking on the tree, but what's frustrating me is that once I have my results, I don't need it to completely re-search again every time I rename or delete a file. (Takes forever in a drive/folder with hundreds of thousands of files, and loses any selection I might have had).

Also when I open one folder from the search results in a new tab, I want to be able to come back to the search results and not find my search (or past selection) "lost".

(I was half expecting a "don't automatically start full search again once initial search is complete" option, but obviously that isn't how it's done)

Can someone advise me how to do this, so that I use search properly?

I have the same issue, tried to fix it checking XYplorer documentation but it seems to be not possible avoiding that.
As example I wrote a script and it was based on results + selpos + going to other location and back to search results, and the ever-changing content on results due to it reflecting changes in file system which is constantly updating and creating stuff broke the whole idea.

What setting do you have for "Search results caching" as described in http://www.xyplorer.com/release_8.30.htm#src?

Not saying this will solve everything but it's worth a look...

Locking the search tab (as suggested in that link) helps a lot, it makes the search results a lot more 'stable'. Worth highlighting that more, in the "help" file.

It doesn't solve the other part of the problem though. When I do a second search, it overwrites the tab with the first search. I often want two different searches displayed (in two windows or tabs) and right now I'm having to drop back into Windows Explorer to do it.

Any ideas?

Also when I open a folder from the search results in a new tab, the tree position updates in the search results (even though locked). Folder sync is useful for searching but once the search is complete it is a problem if it is then automatically changed and the "results" tab loses the search results.

Is there a way to avoid this?

I don't really understand how the "results tab loses the search results." I don't see this here.

After a search completes I open one of the folders from the results in new tabs. As it switches to the new tab to view the opened folder, the location on the tree changes in sync (of course). When I go back to the search results tab, that tab's location on the tree has also changed, even though in that tab I didn't change it. So XYplorer starts searching again when I flick back to the results.

This is puzzling. Since XYplorer does store the tree location for each tab, it shouldn't redo the search when I visit a different tab (at a new location) then go back to the search tab. I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong.

(Search settings = autosynch and selected locations both yes)

You should enable Configuration | Find Files | Cache search results. This should fix it for you.

I don't really want results cached - it's a shared machine and I need to avoid leaving cached work stuff (even file name lists) on it. Is there is a way to set where the cache is saved, so I can put it on a different drive?

You can freely define the location for all XY app data using Startup.ini or the command line switch /ini=(path). This will also affect the location of the find results cache.
