The find area below the file list has no close button.

The Find tab is part of the Info Panel. There are several ways to toggle the IP (F12, Window > Show Info Panel) but the easiest way is to enable Configuration > Extended > Mouse > Click on status bar toggles info panel. This way, clicking the status bar (which is visible regardless of whether the IP is shown) will toggle the IP's visibility.

Click on status will to nicely. Probably should be enabled by default.

As nas8e9 wrote, it doesn't have a close button because it's not a case of being open or closed but rather shown or not which is a slight difference...same as the tree not having a close button.
Personally, I find the easiest way to handle the IP status is via toolbar icons, of which there are about 4, including show/hide, max/min, last/min and wide/normal.

I also have the "show/hide navigation panel" (tree/cat) and 'dual pane' icons along with those 4 above so with those TB icons, I can pretty much control what I see and how much of it.
And by placing those icons so they show near middle of screen by ordering of TB icons, I have only 1/2 screen max mouse travel to get to them which is better than a close button on one edge.
