If I press the <del> key, the file or directory is deleted without prompting for confirmation. I want to change that since it's too easy to hit accidently when reaching for <backspace> or another button on the crowded laptop keyboard. Yet, on the Options under File Options, the item "Turn off delete confirmation" is already unchecked. Is there another setting somewhere, and what's this one actually do?

Check your settings in Configuraton / Undo & Action Log...

It shows both "prompt before delete" and "delete to recycle bin" as checked.
Neither of those is the case when hitting <del> or choosing Delete from the context menu. My understanding is that these options apply to deleting as the way to perform an undo (that would be undoing a creation, I suppose).

Unchecking "Turn off delete confirmation" is enough. The other one is only for Undo/Redo.

No idea why it does not work. Do you get a confirmation prompt in Explorer?

On which drive are the files you're deleting?
I seem to remember that network and external drives are handled differently to local drives...

Yes, Windows Explorer does the same thing -- no confirmation.
The drive is an internal partition, in a perfectly normal way.
