Due to work pressure have have not been following or using recent Betas.
Glancing at "What's New 9.9 Tags" today wondered what provisions have been made to avoid possibly disastrous confusion between the implementation and use of Tag vs. Tags.

All necessary provisions. No disaster is possible. What particular disaster were you thinking of?

Given the parallelism of names assume there is overlap of functionality. Does Tags augment or supersede Tag?

There is no overlap. "Tag" does not exist anymore; it's now called "Label".

Well, that answers that. Without having done any reading, superficially Tags vs Labels sounds intimating.
As to the change log, was lucky to steal time to look at the web site today let alone read that.
BTW - When will the program's name change be effective? With the new year and the advent of version 10.0 that is an auspicious opportunity for mutagenesis.

True am not in your shoes and Oliver Wendell Holmes did refer to the "incommunicable experience of war".
Still the idea of New Program Name Version 1.0, January 1, 2011 was an intriguing concept.
