Drag and drop messages from Outlook

I would like to drag and drop email messages from Outlook to the file
system and have them be automatically named according to 'sent
date/time-author-recipient-subject line'.

Does anyone know if XYplorer can be configured to accommodate this?

I don't think so: the file name is set by the originating program. It may be possible in the future with Custom Event Actions, but that's some way off.

Sure possible, though I don't know, whether your special naming needs can be met exactly, but check out Configuration/Templates/Dropped Messages yourself...

You're right, thanks for correcting me .

Yes, look at Configuration | Templates | Dropped Messages, and try this
template:
<date yyyy-mm-dd_hh-nn-ss>-<from>-<to>-<subject>

Wow - that works well; it even sets the modified date of the .msg file according to the received date.

One unexpected feature - for some emails, the <to> expands to the first name in the cc list (instead of the recipient).

You mean for some emails but not for others and you cannot see a pattern? That looks like hard to debug...

I did some quick testing and the effect happens when the message is sent from Outlook through Exchange, the 'to' recipient is external to the Exchange server and one of the cc's is internal to the Exchange server - in this case the Exchange-internal cc is written by xyplorer as the 'to' - even if it is preceded by another, Exchange-external cc. When sending from Outlook through Exchange, if the 'to' recipient is internal, or if all the 'to' and 'cc' recipients are external, the from-to are written correctly.

I can post the emails I used to test this effect.

Yes, please send them to my email (see http://www.xyplorer.com/support.htm). Maybe I can reproduce it.

Drop-tested .msg files sent. Let me know if you need anything further.

Thanks for your support.

Thanks, but that was a misunderstanding. Please send them to me as emails. I need to reproduce the error by dragging them from my email client.

I have re-send the test emails - packaged in an Outlook 2003-format .pst file. Let me know if you want a different format - I can send in the earlier Outlook 98-2002 .pst format or forward the test emails individually.
