Question about "Open in Other Pane" in v9.60.0007

Tree Items Context Menu: Added optional item "Open in Other Pane"
(Alt+Click). Will open the selected folder in the other pane
(whether that pane is visible or not). Note that it also works
when right-clicking a folder other than the current folder.

Not sure if I understand this. If I'm in the Tree on the left with one pane open, say Program Files, and want to open another folder in a second pane (vs. tab), say Downloads, does this change mean to Alt-click or right-click on the Downloads folder? I'm asking because Alt-click gets no response and there's no "Open in Other Pane" right clicking on Downloads.

In short yes. Alt+Click is working fine here.

To get it to appear in the context menu you need to go to:
Tools->Configuration->Advanced
Enable custom items in shell context menu.
Click Folder Tree
Enable Open in Other Pane.

Thanks. I had all that enabled except Open in Other pane, which is now enabled. Then I closed and reopened XYplorer, and the Open in Other Pane is there in the menu but still nothing happens; same with the Alt-click. What could I be missing?

Do you have Dual Pane enabled? = Do you see both panes?

It does so in the background, so if the other pane is not visible, XY will not activate it.
It doesn't open a new tab in the other pane, just changes the location of the other pane's focused tab.

Not sure what else you could be missing...

Oh, I misread it as opening the pane onscreen directly. That would sure be nice... :-) Thanks for following through.

I was wondering about this... I guess 90% of all times auto-opening the 2nd pane when necessary would be fine. But for the other 10% it's hell... :|

Hell or inconvenience? User option would be nice.

I'd rather make a decision here. Too many options already. And my decision is: Open 2nd pane if necessary.

If I understood it correct, it's "what to do" if a command is related to the "hidden" pane?
I think it's right to do something in this situation - if I affect the hidden pane I probably want to see it.
Either switch panes,
or activate dual pane.
I'm afraid sometimes one is wanted, sometimes the other...

What would be an example of a situation where you select "Open in other pane" and want it to affect a hidden pane without showing it?

For example when you just want to switch panes (Toggle Active Pane) in the next step because you have no space for showing both panes at once.

Or you want to open Dual Pane only later to work in that folder.

Well personally I find it slightly counter intuitive that it does not open the pane to show it. It is easy to get the impression it does nothing. Might just be me :).

Not to mention the fact that it is now two different shortcuts depending on where you use it (alt-click in tree, crtl-shift-dblclick in list).

Yes, I agree. That's why I said above:

:)
