Search result tab .vs. new tab? Is it me or XY?

Not sure if it's me not understanding how it should work or XY having a bad day.
Anyway, I do a search and get results in "Search Results" tab...fine..
Then I revise criteria and do another find, but ask for results to be in NEW tab. I don't get a new tab, but they appear in "SR" tab instead.
It doesn't seem to matter much what option I use for results, as they seem to end up in current tab most of the time...not always, but most all.
(This is with .0044 beta)

Nope, I beleive that's a bug

Seems the New Tab option doesnt work if the current one is in search result mode.

Nope again, it's a feature, and it has been like this since day one of tabbed browsing! The simple rule behind it: if the current tab is in find mode, use it for the next search results. It always felt natural to me like this, and nobody ever complained (until you came, jacky).

I'm starting to feel somewhat

in that I appear to keep whining...but it's because I DO like this XY and want it to be as perfect as possible..
So here's the problem for me: Let's say I just have the SR tab and have done a find on some files...now I want to use some data from those results to find another set of files...so I'd like to keep my original results for reference and get a second set of results...I select "New Tab" as output, yet it clobbers my current results...so my workaround then has to be? Open a new tab manually, and then do search? Seems a bit odd. Given that it plainly states that "Results in : New Tab" is a choice.
And removing that option from SR tab makes even less sense.
The option choices for output results, I think, should work the same for New/Curr whether or not I'm presently in SR tab or not. And if i'm on the SR tab, then Curr=SR so both those choices would be same effect.

Yes, I understand that, too. Let's sleep a night over it...

Agreed
All others - please chime in on this also
...as one would be still always able to keep answers in current tab just by selecting that opt as output...or also using SR choice as output, if you're on that tab...so only chg would be making the "new" effective from a SR tab, as I see it.

Well, that's a weird feature then I think
As j_c_hallgren said, if you're on a tab in search mode, and start a search with New Tab as destination, you do not expect XY to overwrite the current tab, but do what it was told to: use a new tab.
I think XY should simply do whatever the option says: use the current tab, a new one or the SR one without any regard what mode is the current tab on.
It will mean that Current & SR will do the same on the SR tab, but that makes sense.

Well, I could be wrong but maybe that rule was probably there before the option (current/new/SR tab) exists, so yeah it made sense then; but since now the user can specify where he wants the results to be, I can't think why anyone would want his options to be ignored at times

I agree, XY should "do as it's told". New should not overwrite an existing tab but create a new one.
However, try this:
Do a search and place results in New tab, this tab has the same name as the source tab. Now do a search from the "new" tab with different criteria and results to Search Results tab. They end up in the current tab. So, the new tab, with the same name as the original tab, is the Search Results tab - or is it?
Now go back to the original source tab and do another search and specify Search Results tab - Search Result tab is created.
My brain hurts!!!
I'm beginning to think that New and Current might be sufficient since what the Search Results tab is appears to be a little dubious.

I thought I had described a scenario in which having the choice of all three is needed...if not clear, here's another attempt:
1) New - is needed when you definitely want another tab created, no matter how many total tabs you'd end up with
2) Current - is needed when you're on a tab you wish to reuse, and which may have been renamed by user to, maybe "Main" as suggested above
3) SR - is needed to create a new tab, if SR doesn't exist, or force reuse of SR, if it does. This comes in handy when you're on a tab you want to keep, and try out various find criteria. The first time, it would typically create a new tab, and then reuse it on subsequent, WITHOUT user having to toggle output option setting. This also allows some users to always keep output in one known fixed tab.
So I can definitely see where having SR as option makes sense...it's just how New is ignored presently that doesn't seem to make sense.

Yes, I can see the logic in what you are saying. I must admit that I don't use the search feature that much since I have FileLocator Pro (sorry Donald - no disrespect to XY's search). I use it because it displays the text found, and the surrounding text.
So, what we require is... If a New tab is created it should not become a Search Results tab, just a plain tab, even though it contains search results. Likewise the Current tab is just a tab, but can contain search results. The situation I described made the new tab a "dual" tab, it could be both a Search Results tab and just a plain tab. The Search Results tab contains search results, regardless of whether they are from an ordinary tab or a tab that already contains search results.

In the coming version "New" will unconditonally create a new tab for search results. Let's then see if any confusion remains.

Great
BTW haven't used it that much yet, but seems I dont get dupes on the search location list

Once again, good work Sir!
