A few 'layout' questions about tabs and panels

Hi all,
I just have a couple of questions about how anyone else sets up XY and how to get the best from tabs and dual panes etc. XY is just so customisable that I'm undecided about the best way to set things up . . .
The things I'm specifically wondering are:
1) I have set up a toolbar button with a simple script to open certain tabs (the folders I use most often). So, for instance, I can select an option 'Image work' on the toolbar button I created and it closes all other tabs, then re opens tabs for the folders I use most often to work on images. It even auto sizes the colums for each tabs and locks them to specific folders. Wonderful
But . . . is this the best way to do it? Clearly it doesn't save other settings, such as the catalog, search settings, the second panel being present or not ie the whole layout of XY. I've seen mention of saving seperate .ini files for each layout. I can understand that, but if I have say 10 seperate .ini files, what happens if I create a new toolbar button in one of them? Won't I have to re create it 10 times to use on all my seperate 'layouts'???
2) The file search is superb. I've noticed that if I rename the search tab it retains that same name each and every time I do a search. It's actually the same name on the tab regardless of the search template I use or search settings. Is there any way to rename a search tab automatically based on the search template used?
Do other users have a collection of overall layout settings that they can call upon depending on what kind of work they are doing? Do people have a collection of 'search folders' they keep open to do automatic searches in the background with meaningful tab names?
Just a couple of thoughts!
Thanks as always
