Replace all windows explorer windows!

Directory Opus seems to be able to replace even the "open" and "save as" dialog windows that different programs use and this feels like a must-have feature for me!
It's very frustrating not to be able to use the wonderfull features of XYplorer nearly half the time when working with software programs (for example when saving files).
I feel like this should be the most important feature to be developed, since it would really make a huge difference in the helpfulnes of XYplorer. I would never ever want to see standard windows explorer windows again!

Hi and welcome to the XY forums from me also!
Now had you done a somewhat minimal search, you'd likely have found a very similar thread from just recently at
http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=5113...
I think there may be some other threads that discuss it also, but it does involve something that only DO seems to be able to do (other than WE) as other FM's that I've tried can't do it either.

Yes.. I downloaded this small piece of freeware now and it helps a little bit (can make my own list of favourites to use in the "save as" -window):

It would be great to have even this minimal implementation of the feature right inside XYplorer so that you wouldnt have to install this freeware separately.

I did not research this but I would think this is a system setting rather than an XY internal feature. Somewhere in the registry there should be a place where you can determine what happens when the common file open dialog is called.

Oh that would be superb!
I don't know anything about registry stuff, but the fact that a freeware program is able to add itself into the "save file" window gives me hope that it could be done for XYplorer too.
Don't you guys feel like it would be a pretty important/helpfull feature to have in XYplorer?

Why don't you look into your registry and tell me what that freeware program has done. If my theory is right, it must have left some traces there...

Depends on how abstracted one would make it. Currently, one does not need to have WE running to use those Open/Save dialogues. Would XY need to be running for its custom dialogues to appear? Also, at the moment, WE's Open/Save allows me to use paths (and use breadcrumb AB) that are inaccessible in XYplorer, so there are quite a few obstacles in the way here.

I would not spend too much energy in this line of development. I won't have time for this in the next 2 years at least, and there are some open technical questions.

Well thanks for an honest answer. I won't keep my hopes up then.
It's just really hard for me to see what other features could possible be more important than one that allows us to get totally rid of windows explorer? Could you name some features that you guys feel are more useful?

Getting totally rid of windows explorer is not a feature IMO, but sounds more like a "softicide" to me...

Neither is it a development goal of mine. Replacing Explorer is a means, not a goal, a means to get work done more efficiently.

I see no point in naming them as those features are more important to *me*. What is important to you and others is likely to differ. It's all relative

Exactly! There are some features that some of our forum-ites depend on as critical that I personally never use and vice-versa, so what we have to concentrate on for new development are those features that would be of use to many users, especially those who may be coming from another FM or who are considering the switch.

Yes, I understand it is a means. Why shouldn't the same means be used to help us with all the situations in which we experience frustration because of the standard Windows Explorer feature set?

I totally agree. That's why I'm trying to find out what more universally useful feature could there possibly be than this? I mean I believe people buy this software to replace Windows Explorer. That's why I bought it. It was a huge disappointment to realize that it wouldn't replace Windows Explorer in over 50% of the situations (when actually working with some software, which I believe is the most wide spread purpose of computers).
Isn't the purpose of XYplorer to give us a better and faster workflow in Windows? Well, the way I see it, it only succeeds 50% of the time, if we still need to use the standard windows explorer in the other half of the situations (perhaps even more).
Just my 2 cents. Please don't get offended.
