Is there a way to increase the border padding in the tree pane (that is, the space between the "tree proper'' and the pane window border)? The default padding, in my opinion, is not aesthetically pleasing.

I found an entry in the XYplorer.ini file to change the border type; perhaps a padding setting could be added here...

Could you please provide a screenshot of what you are referring to? That way others will also use it as a frame of reference and it'd be easier to see the unpleasantness...Thanks!

Thanks for the welcome. Below is a screenshot. I want more space between the pane
borders and the margins of the tree.

I think the best you can do currently is an INI tweak to adjust the indention of children under their parent.

Thanks for the quick reply; but that only increased the space between tree items. The space between the pane border and the left side of the tree stayed the same.

I've noticed the same thing on both left and top of "My Computer" as shown here:. But it's not really bothered me as it thus allows me to see more of folder names in a smaller area (I've only got a 1024x768 laptop)...if you've got more space, I can see where it could be better with more but I'd not want it affecting mine either naturally

I believe XY's padding is identical to Explorer's.

It may be due to the difference in which icon/item is at the top since WE & XY differ on "who's the highest" but there IS a bit of space above the Desktop icon on WE and none above My Computer in XY:

OK, I now see this is a problem in Classic View. I don't really spend too much time in adapting the program to this Win95 looks... but I agree it looks terrible.

And I fully realize that we're likely only talking about a pixel or two but having no head room on My Computer does appear a bit less than the 100% perfect that we know you like to be when you can.

it's me again - no, I'm not a nitpicker.

Seriously, it's not a bummer - and most users won't even notice my point, I guess.
Nevertheless, I'd like to ask for introduction of a dedicated Tweak "left padding" for panes - some day/some version.

For me, that's not about aesthetics but usability instead. However, I have to confess, I'm struggling to provide convincing arguments, but I'll try (though I don't know, wether it's rather due to maybe silly "old" habits, or simply me getting older. ):

I really often work with many overlapping programs/windows (see screenshot). Despite the fact, that every visible window should clearly represent an individual program (or instance thereof), I'm always looking for visual hints/clues as to wether what I'm currently dealing with or my next mouse click will get me to. One of those automatic visual "indicators" seem to be the gap between the program's window border and the "beginning" of the window's displayed content. I can only speculate, but maybe this "left gap" simply helps by adding another vertical separator guiding the eyes even better.

Maybe some day when there's "spare" time for pennies ...
