I've done a forum search but can't find any mention of this, so it's maybe intended and I missed it, but I don't remember noticing the effect a few months back.

If I delete a folder in the left pane while viewing it's contents in the right, immediately a new tab is created focussing on the folder below where the deleted one was.

It's no problem, just that last week I noticed that five new tabs had secretly manifested during a session and I've only just worked out why. I'll be deleting folders in the right pane from now.

Great program of course. The hotly anticipated latest betas are some of the most exciting, innovative events that I've witnessed Internet-wise for years. Windows Explorer looks sooo klunky now.

Ah, interesting bug! You are talking about deleting a locked folder in the tree, right? Or more correctly: the folder the current and locked tab is pointing to. So what happens is (almost) logical: the folder is deleted, the folder on the next tree row is selected, the current tab tries to open it, but since it is a locked tab, it opens it in a new tab. The only problem: the locked tab's location does not exist anymore; it is locked to nothing!

So, what should happen when you try to delete the location of a locked tab? Open for suggestions...

Nah, not locked. To make sure I renamed the .ini file, relaunched XY, first action was to create a new folder then delete it. A new tab was born...

Of course! D'oh. Well it doesn't seem to have affected anyone else here (yet!). I'll soon get into the habit of deleting in the right pane. Furious, bloodied and dejected; but I'm sure I'll get by somehow. Somehow

I started shift-deleting years ago when disk space was tight - I couldn't afford to stuff the Recycle Bin. Has become an entrenched habit. But, to repeat, deleting in the right pane will soon be second nature. No probs.

Haven't done any programming here for years. Can the key combination Shift-Delete be set as ignored by the New Tab code?

If I press Shift-Delete I get an "Are you sure... " prompt. Then I can let loose of the Shift key and click okay or press enter, and everything is fine. So, lift your left hand before you press enter!

Remains the question: what to do when the current tab is locked?

Stay lock with the "currently unavailable" message seems the thing to be, and that's what's currently done.
The only thing could be not to open a new tab but stay on that lock tab with the unavailable message, pretty much like when starting XY but the folder doesn't exist anymore
