I know this sounds petty, but it would be great if there were an option to use a different icon for the program. The reason is (at least for me) it is confusingly similar to the MS Outlook icon. They both use orange and white. I know, my eyes are going (from starring at the computer screen all day, no doubt) but there are many times where i click the wrong program. At least an option maybe or a way where i can change a file in the xyplorer directory with a different images/.ico would be great.

I believe there's software that allows you to patch the icon of an exe. Somebody here might know the details...

What OS are we talking about? In XP, you can change an icon of a shortcut in the properties panel.

But that won't help in the taskbar.

Resource Hacker (http://download.chip.eu/en/Resource-Hac ... 82614.html) is freeware, but does not work on all files.
Resource Tuner (http://www.restuner.com) is shareware, but is more powerful.

No, it won't. Then again, he didn't mention anything about taskbar . I assumed (yes, my fault! ) that he was referring to something like Quick Launch area. As for taskbar, it's difficult to talk in those terms without knowing the OS.

BTW, I would not mind a new icon if it is better than the old one. The winning designer will be mentioned on the homepage...

Actually, I like the new alternative app icon from 9.00.0009 so much that I probably will make it the new default icon and logo for XY. It's a combination of X and Y and a buffalo about to stampede you, in my favorite colors black and white. This cannot be topped!

BTW, I'm making a 2 weeks holiday now.

Some comments on the new icon...

1) I don't think there's any actual difference in this, but the new icon appears more square than the old orange one.
2) It looks a little plain without a gradient or slight light flare.
3) It also looks rather flat. It might help if there were some/more anti-aliasing on the X/Y.
4) At first I'm not so much liking how it looks on dark shell themes, for instance MS' Zune theme: I'll have to see if it looks better on Vista with a dark Aero theme, and maybe we could get a Win 7 screenshot from someone?


Would it be useful if we all provided some screenshots of it with our shell themes?
Or are you already satisfied and this is it?

Black & white may be your favorite colors but I really do like the existing color scheme! It makes it quite unique and easy to understand/recognize in all the places it's used...

I'm hoping that you just leave this B&W as alternative 'cause to me, it looks like a broken "X" without any "Y"...sorry!

In Win 7, the taskbar icon doesn't change. The only icon that changes is a small one in XYplorer's top left-hand corner.

Also, like TheQwerty and JC, I don't like that alternative icon. I prefer the brighter and lighter colours of the orange "XY"

Can you provide a small screenshot of what MS Outlook icon you're referring to? I guess they changed it from my old vers...

Maybe another idea would be the existing "XY" in another color scheme(s), like the blue and white at top of this forum? And also the green as on XY site used for "lifetime license" as 3rd choice...these are all variants of current "official" colors for XY so that could help but still not be dull & plain B&W.

Hey now!!! That's not what I said!
I like the overall design, but I think it needs some tweaking to be better.
