Newsletter and/or update check for new of releases

Hi,
it would be very nice to be informed of new releases of xyplorer by a (short) newsletter. An easy and cheap system would be to create a Yahoo Group. (I cannot recommend to set up phpList.)
And: It would be nice if xyplorer could check itself automatically if new updates exists. I just tried the script XYplorer Automatic Updater but I think this is nothing for the normal user.
Because neither a newsletter nor an update function exist I am always very late in updating my xyplorer installation...

I know you've been here for a while but I never extended a "Welcome to XY forums!" to you so doing so now...
Re newsletter: There is a way to subscribe to email updates of the "beta release" thread via my
http://xyplorer.blogspot.com/...While I'd readily admit that I unfortunately sometimes do get a few days behind on updates (especially when Don puts out a vers that has a lengthy desc or freq upds), it's better than nothing...
And I'd simply suggest that you make it a habit to check on this forum at least once per day via the "View active threads" or just the beta forum to see if there are new vers.
And if all you're concerned with are "Official Releases', you can also watch my
http://twitter.com/XYplorer which I attempt as best I can to be reasonably current...though at times, I do wait a couple of days after the release to make sure there isn't a 'hotfix' to it.
Yes, right now, I have fallen a bit behind on the blog/twitter but will try to catch up in next few days..sorry!

i guess the easiest and most up-to-date possibility would be to subscribe to the
beta thread, no?

As for checking for updates, I'd expect that with arrival of CEAs you'd be able to run "#711" on start up (or as required).
