Remember that (AFAIK) 64bit is dependant on a 64bit VB compiler which I don't believe exists presently...either that, or a complete rewrite in another language that is 64bit compatible which would be a enormous effort and a steep learning curve as well.

Do you mean the versions in the full cycle of the 9th major point, i.e 9.00-9.90? Or just version 9.00? If it's the latter, then I'd expect to see at least one of the features that we voted for here:

You're not making a very convincing argument

It's easy to say: support FTP, but it's much more difficult to implement (esp. the security details).

Exactly right, zer0!
I see FTP as a black hole that would suck up all of Don's resources because even if a bare-bones FTP support were added, there would be a never ending flow of "can you add this or that?" here...and while some may view FTP as being file management, I'm not one of those because unlike any locally or networked storage, one has to get involved with security and connections and all sort of stuff and there are many external apps that do a great job of FTP already and which specialize in that area.
There are ways by which existing capabilities of Windows can be used to have a minimal FTP ability in XY...such as serendipity's script here:
http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=4299
Found this other script in another thread but a couple of the links are dead so not sure how valid it is now:
http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=2970
The base script is still available via the attachment in thread.

I love a program with a lot of power, features, and functionality - so long as it's core to the program's intended purpose.
Once developers go outside those boundaries, their software typically starts its dive to the bottom of the pile. An FTP client is a seperate and unrelated application to a file manager. It has no business being merged with one. Once you do that, you end up with an app that can't do either purpose justice.
There are plenty of quality FTP clients out there. Many of them have features that allow you to sync local and remote directories. Find and use one of them. It's better to use a first rate FTP client, and a first rate file manager, then a third rate blend of the two.

I agree - no need for a FTP client in XY. FileZilla does everything I need.
