Nope, and nobody ever asked for this. You don't like them?

Welcome,
Don

I have them disabled for all programs on my computer.
Please add a setting to enable/disable.

Hi and welcome to the XY forums!

Now you do realize that for certain toolbars that the tooltips contain helpful information about what action will be done and which varies, right? Such as Home, Back & Fwd which show the path/folder that would be the destination...and Visual Filter shows the current filter...so not having these would give no feedback as to possible action....but hey, if you don't think that's an aid to usage, I'm not sure what to say.

May I ask why you wish to disable them? Also, it's important to distinguish that not all TB buttons provide purely tooltips, some tips are a combination of tooltip information and infotip information. Mainly this concerns navigational and "undo" buttons :)

On all my programs I have turned off toolbar tooltips because I don't like them.
I only want an option to turn on/off toolbar tooltips, like it is in any other program.
I kindly ask to be added a simple checkbox.

May I ask what you don't like about them? How do they inconvenience you? You should also think of what benefit this feature may be to others, not just yourself. I also don't think that this is a core feature of a program, so I checkbox in already-congested GUI wouldn't be feasible, a tweak if that but even that needs better reasons ;)

Can't remember a single program where I can turn on/off toolbar tooltips...

Neither can I, and according to Revo Uninstaller, I've got at least 150+ appl's on this system.

And I don't want to be negative to a new user, but the question as to why one would not want to show the tooltips that contain variable info as to what that button will do at that time, like what the current Visual Filter is, is still not answered....saying one doesn't like tooltips isn't an answer to that since almost all tooltips tend to be static.

And then does this user not want to see tooltips on files in list either? If not, they are depriving themselves of a quick way of seeing a lot of info that one would have to use Properties to view in WE...and what about zip files? Would one not want to see what files are within?

Plus to be truely consistent, then tooltips wouldn't be wanted on Config either to futher explain what that box or entry does....

Tooltips are tooltips whether they be on toolbar, files or dialog...they give extra info about that item.

Some programs where tooltips can be turned on/off:
MS Office = 7-8 programs
Nero
Opera
AutoCAD
...

I thought that this program is so good because it has so many setting options. It seems that I was wrong.
Admin, please delete my account.

That isn't strictly true. Some tips are tooltips, some are infotips. The difference is whether extra information beyond description of a text-less control is being provided. That's why on tips on files are called info tips in Config ;)

Yes, you are correct...I was in a bit of a hurry...and just wanted to get the basic point across.

And after it was mentioned, I did some looking in Opera and did find that setting...I'd never noticed it before...but...it's still not that common I think...Ok, so there are some apps that support it but I dare say the majority do not.

Also...I find it interesting how we get someone new here who asks for (what seems to be) an obscure feature that at least three of us regulars don't understand the reasoning for...then doesn't provide any answers to our (hopefully polite) queries but instead gets upset and gives up on us in just a day or so...now what type and speed of reaction and change would this user get from another FM product? I really doubt that he would get any action on a request like this for days, or more likely at least weeks, if not months.

BTW, I can't recall that Don has ever deleted an acct..if so, I'm not aware of it...disabled a handful and deleted some troll and/or spam threads, yes...but threads like this need to be kept for future reference.

While we're on the subject, here's a way to disable tips for Windows Explorer, so consider this a tip :P

1. Open RegEdit, go to

Code: Select all

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced
2. Look for the key called ShowInfoTip. Right-click it, Modify and change its value from 1(default) to 0.

These are the File InfoTips (which you can disable in XY as well). But toolbar tips?

...wondering if he was meaning STATUSBAR instead... Well, I came accross the same problem but after using SkyFrontier's New User's Reference Guide = ) (http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic. ... 79&start=0) I've found THIS and made a workaround (for scripting statuses, of course!):

::status

So, for the little script I use to keep passwords at hand

copytext "passwordToEnter"; status "Done!"

"status" comes to rescue. But I also would prefer the complete disabling (at least for Scripts' statuses!) once we still can actually see that "text copied: passwordToEnter" message... Worse scenario is if one is being spyed by screenshot tools...
