Highlight an item when moving the mouse to its row?

Hi guys,

There is a cool feature of Windows Explorer in Windows 7 that XYPlorer does not have (at least in its default configuration), that is: When you move your mouse up and down, the item and its row currently pointed to by the mouse will be highlighted, which will help you to easily select the item if you want. More over, if you really want to select that item, you also need to click on its row, not on its name (like in XYPlorer).

I wonder if XYPlorer has any setting that can enable this functionality?

Thank you for reading my question.

Regards,

Riscilla.

Hello and welcome to XYplorer forum!

There is currently no feature for highlighting the full row on mouseover ala Explorer. However, there is an option that, if you turn it on, will allow you to highlight the full row if clicked anywhere in that row (so not just the name). It's called, appropriately, 'Full Row Select' and can be found in 'Tools' -> 'Customize List'.

Enjoy your stay here :)

Thank you for your helpful answer. I wish the other feature will be available in XYPlorer's future versions.

By the way Vista has this feature too. I would like to see this in XY as well. :)

A feature like this might be useful to those who may have some vision issues to easier see where they are and not mis-select the wrong item.

I am a bit near-sighted which is corrected by contact lenses but otherwise I don't have any vision issues.
So I think the suggestion has nothing to do with vision issues but rather with improvement of usability.

This feature could be kept optional so that you and other veterans wouldn't be bothered.

Here is a definition of usability:

Where did you get the mistaken idea that I was referring to you?

I was speaking for myself in a vague way but guess you're not aware of my situation...
Anyway, I was just saying that it might be of benefit to others (like me) for reasons that might not be as obvious, ok?

The way it's done in Vista/Win 7 uses ListView contorl, which is a window that displays a collection of items. Don said (in this thread: http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=4464) that XYplorer does not use ListView, so he'll have to do Full Row Hover manually. Probably as much work as the marquee box and it's not a priority, but I hope that both will be squeezed into Win 7 stuff :P

Thanks for clarifying your point of view.
Your first statement came across as cheap excuse for not having to consider this feature because only users with visual issues might benefit from it.
I suggest that we settle this for good.

Cheap excuse for not having it? Huh? :?
Guess you didn't realize that I was giving an additional reason that it would be good to have? Anyway, now that you know my situation a bit (which I've mentioned here many times), you'll know why I said it as such...if you took it as applying to you, I'm sorry, but I didn't realize/understand how it could/would...hope that settles it... 8)
