About a week ago, I was able to copy a folder structure and paste it into a new locations without the contents of the folders. But I have searched for about an hour and can't find it again. I don't know if I turned off an option and disabled this feature or what happened. Any help would be appreciated... I know it is there somewhere, I used last week! I have the full version (pro) if that helps. Thanks

Thank you for the help; that was the clue. I think I must have read this on the wiki site.

The Rich Copy works as needed. To summarize incase someone else needs this function.

To create a duplicate folder structure without the folder contents.

First create a destination folder (or not, I do this to track the file operations that follow)
Find the top level folder you want to replicate, right click and drag the folder to the folder just created above. A square box will be under the mouse (this not a windows standard and maybe why it can be hard to find, but then Windows leaves much to be desired IMHO). Release and you are in the Rich Copy mode and a pop up menu appears. Choose 'Create Branch(es) here', and the folder structure will be created without the folder contents at the spot where you release the right mouse button. If you make a mistake in dropping the structure choose Edit/undo and the operation will be erased and you can try again.

This is extremely useful for restructuring a project and for creating mulitple projects that need parallel structures. For example a coding repository, a manufacturing system for printed circuit boards where the steps remain the same but the project contents change and are separate.

Create the new structure and put all the files in, then when it all works as expected create subsequent projects by creating similiar branches.

Hi,

'Create Branch(es) here' is indeed the command you were looking for. But note that this has nothing to do with Rich Copy (which is about copying/moving files along with their folder structure from a recursive search results listing).

Tip: If you often need to create the same empty folder structure, then you should look into the New Items Menu. It's the coolest way to do this.

Thank you for the insight. I will try the New Items, that would be the best solution. That method would allow a way to edit and refine before going ahead.

Great program! I have been looking for this for years. I have tried a lot of them and sooner or later I ran into a limitation or they were just buggy and impossible to rely on. I don't think this will happen here. Once I get more familiar with the terms and functionality I will write a review. Now all you need to do is replace the hated 'file open' system with XYplorer!!

We also train Engineers in software development for embedded systems. I can include a recommendation for XYplorer under a tools section we will be adding should you approve. We also create videos of the development work and could include a short video highlighting your product. There are examples on our site. If you like we could also distribute the trial version as a download with our other materials if that is something you want to do. We do a lot of work with Freescale Semiconductor Ltd. FSL, and more is planned this coming year. One division within FSL that we work with is the University program. If you want to see the type of work you can look at our web site.

I created a folder in NewItems: {yyyy}, which contained another folder {mm-dd} - a good idea at first sight. But the inner name wasn't substituted when inserting {yyyy} by "New Items". (Was just a test: I don't really need it...)

But this eventually should be mentioned in documentation?
(Or changed to function - but who will need that? )

I'd like to have that feature. "New Items" should obey some scriptable variable templates, that wouldn't be bad at all...

Or just use an script instead.

To have this script at the same place as the other "New Items" items
there could be perhaps an feature to detect scripts in "NewItems" -folder?
Something like files with double .xys extension like "subfolders.xys.xys"
or by using an special {ThisIsAnScript} placeholder like "subfolders with date {XYS}.xys"
