How about add an option to show text labels for toolbar buttons? This would be useful for adding notes to custom favorites buttons on the toolbar. Like in this screenshot from my previous file manager...

Takes an awful lot of space.

but space can still be saved by having an option to use smaller 16*16 icons. and labels can be short text like in the screenshot.

I'd like to echo TsunamiZ reply. A lot depends on how far you're willing to take the concept of CTBs. Some people may be willing to compromise on the beauty of an icon and opt for a smaller one just so they can put a bit of text underneath. This appears to hold water if we're talking about drop-down list of further actions. Some others may opt for a big, glorious icon on its own. Both concepts have uses and respective merits.
