Save multiple windows/tab session

Post by ExpertNoob »

Hi,
Its all in the title. I allow multiple instances. How to make XYP save/restore the set of windows with their tabs (like when you restard Firefox choosing to save layout)?

Thx.

Hi,

run each instance with its own app data path. This will keep the configurations completely apart form each other. You can do this using the /ini=... switch in the command line.

That what you mean?

No. I have 2 XYP windows opened.
If I close them and launch XYP, only the window that was closed last comes back.

How do I close all opened windows so that when I start XYP again, all of them are restored?

Ah. No, that's not supported. You'd need to write a batch file to open 2 XYs with one dblclick.

Thanks :(
Do you know if this feature is planned in a future version?

Not planned. Curious: why 2 instances?

Not 2, but more like 18..
I am a heavy-duty file manager user. My brain was formatted through the years to be able to work only this way.
I fail to use the multi-tab paradigm in the file management field, although I can no longer live without it in the web browsing domain, for example. My task bar is 3 stages at least..

To the point that I must be the only Linux fanatic on earth who has a Windows desktop: opening 20 file manager windows at the same time (besides other windows) is not a realistic option on any Linux desktop. I could not configure any file manager to display only the buttons I want, the way I want (meaning without square kilometers of useless gray areas in the toolbars, icons not microscopic, nor gigantic - and not ugly if possible, and 41 other precious screen real estate micro-management criteria). Only Windows XP/2000 can do it. And Vista and Windows 7 just ruined it :)

My solution for the question I ask with Windows Explorer is an AutoIt script that I'm willing to share, if anyone is interested.

Well, you can have 18 parallel XY "installations" and simultaneous instances without problem, and each will restore its previous state on restart perfectly. But every setting you change you will have to change 18 times... not so good.

18 installations?! An what if I want to open a new file manager window? Install XYP again?!
Actually copying the conf between instances would be easy using the .ini file, but I'll skip the on the multiplication theory you profess

I don't think he was advocating actual installations -- rather using the same installation with different ini (i.e. with the /ini="number19.ini") -- that keeps the settings independent...

Does this do what you need? (or help at all?)
