Dedicated status bar for each pane?

How about make a dedicated status bar for each pane? So that status bar info remains visible for both panes even after activating the other pane?
This would also make it more convenient to see status bar info directly under the current pane. This is especially true in high resolution screens where there can be a big pixel distance between panes and the status bar info.

here is a screenshot from another file manager called Windows Double Explorer. it shows the benefits and intuitiveness of a status bar for each pane. also makes it easier to compare files/folders properties side by side.

While I concur that dual status bars would be good, not sure how it would work on smaller screens where the existing values take a majority of the width...unless we could maybe define exactly what entries to show when space is limited compared to full width... the rightmost seems to be the least important because it often tends to duplicate info available elsewhere or not required for current function, I believe.

if limited horizontal space is a concern on low res screens, then perhaps make the properties wrap into a 2nd row? or use a fatter status bar like windows explorer on windows 7?

I think this is a good idea. Information in the status bar can be useful and, when comparing files, would save having to remember displayed values.

Likewise, it is important to bear in mind that there are people who have ample screen real estate and they'd like to increase its utilisation. A step towards that is already planned by Don (extra list columns based on files' meta-data), so an apple of a per-pane status bar wouldn't fall far from that tree

Right...I wasn't wanting to prevent those who have to space to use it...I was just wanting to have some way to make use of a dual status bar also and thusly would need a short(er) format as option.

Better utilisation of space is more efficient than adding a shorter format. For example, if dividers of status bar's sections automatically adjusted to data more space would be available. If vertical pane divider is moved to modify status bars' space then warping to new row should be possible
