Reconnecting mapped network drives in Win7

In Win7 Professional I create a mapped network drive and check the 'Reconnect at logon' checkbox. Windows Explorer does successfully reconnect automatically and I can browse the network drive perfectly.

In 'Computer' in the tree view in XY the mapped drive letter does appear but is reported as a 'Disconnected Network Drive' and cannot be accessed. The only way to access it is to create the mapped network drive again through the XY menus. (If I do it through Explorer XY does not pick it up. Not sure if this is because I run XY as Administrator.)

This was a problem I previously reported in Vista and I lived with it. However, Win7 looks like it's going to be a lot more successful than Vista and therefore I hope the urgency of resolving the problem, which is inconvenient and a definite bug (XY menu option does not work correctly), will be greatly elevated. Pretty please? :D

In the meantime, XY of course continues to get ever more brilliant. :)

You mean Tools / Tools Special / Reconnect All Mapped Network Drives does not work under Win7?

Yes.

And also, I thought that XY would/should work like Windows Explorer when it comes to drive reconnection, but it doesn't. As in:

1) Create mapped drive (in XY, but presumably also in Windows Explorer)
2) Restart Windows
3) Restart XY - the drive should already be connected, as it is in Windows Explorer, but it isn't.

If that's the case (i.e. XY behaves like Explorer in that respect and automatically reconnects if the mapping was set with the reconnect checked) then presumably the Tools / Tools Special / Reconnect All Mapped Network Drives option should not actually be needed?

Hope that clarifies.

The Vista thread on this subject is here:

I'm seeing exactly the same problem with Win7 as I did with Vista. It would be very useful to have the problem resolved bearing in mind it affects anyone using restored mapped network drives in Vista or Win7. Thanks!

Pete

OT: Can we swap? I give you Win 7 and you hand over the big monitor? :P

Great! Well, without wishing to provoke a flame war with anyone (about Win7) I'm sure both of these upgrades will be really nice! Once I got used to the taskbar enhancements and aero snap features they are good productivity speedups. Hope you got Pro or above to get the Virtual PC / 'free' XP image too!

Thanks for promoting the reconnect map network drives up the priority list! (I think that's what you did? :o )

All the best,

Pete
