Ability to remove and/or rearrange menu items

Let's face it, as powerful as it is, XY has a dizzying array of features and options that likely make daily use of this wonderful tool quite daunting for the masses.

Often I run into trouble using XY because there are so darn many options (many of them duplicated on different menus). (And I have a graduate degree in Engineering.) I can't easily find what I need --- and by the time I find it, I forgot what I was planning to do!

Basically I wish for a way to remove and/or rearrange menus and menu items, basically create my very own custom "lite" version of XY with only the commands I want to see --- and arranged the way I would like to see them. I would then spend the better part of an afternoon trimming and moving commands around. Once that was done, my productivity would soar, having removed the excess "noise" from the menus.

I know that some of you XY experts may balk at this ("hey, just learn it"). Exactly the point. Most people don't have time to take a course in XY. Don't get me wrong, I continue to use XY exclusively and have not touched Explorer in months. And I will have to invest more time in learning new features. But this ability to remove/rearrange items would be huge.

For a good implementation of this, check out the Tools-Customize option of Sun's OpenOffice (http://www.openoffice.org/).

Some ppl think I'm an XY expert but I don't think so, especially in some aspects of features that I don't use...now given that I asked in the other thread to have "Network" stuff defined as optional, I'm on your side here somewhat...and I say 'somewhat' only because it could be a problem in assisting a user with a problem IF their menus differ from the standard as we would tell them where to find it and it may be elsewhere or not there.

Being able to disable display of menu items would not be quite as bad as moving them around and might be worth it as initial variant...but agree that it's also low priority to me.

The new Features section in Configuration goes into that direction.

Hiding menu items in a completely user-defined way is planned indeed, but not extremely soon.

But forget about moving them -- not possible.

Don, thanks for your comment and looking forward to seeing this feature sometime!
