I think Color Filters is a pretty cool feature, especially with the backgrounds.

The only problem I'm having with it is that the background is only as big as the filename. I see in the changes that it is an intended feature (for now), but it does look quite messy when your filenames and folder names have all different lengths. It's so very messy that it's actually getting very distracting, moreso than zebra striping.

I'd like to suggest to allow color filters backgrounds to have an option for coloring the full row. Or at least colorize the full Name column, that'd already be a huge improvement. I like the look of tags very much, which I'd like to see for color filters as well. I don't have much use for tags myself.

Well, since the text color also applies to the whole row, this makes kind of sense. I'll think about it...

I agree, and that's one reason (random lengths) that I've not used background color filters...but I think of your two suggestions that just having the full name col would be better choice as that makes it look more like the tags instead of colors all over the place.

What about making it configurable between those two, though? Not everybody uses tags, just like not everybody uses zebra striping. I'd definitely go for the full row in my case. Some people use only column-tags.

That would be ok with me, but I'd think the name col should be the default with full row being alternate...this could be at tweak level if needed, though we also want to not have hundreds of tweaks either.

Sounds fine to me, I have no problems with this at all so long it is very clearly shown in the Color Filters tab that you can toggle between those 2 modes easily. A li'l checkbox above the existing two ones or some such.
