Would be incredibly helpful if the Sort by scripting command would allow sorting by multiple fields.

You mean first sort by "name", then sort by "size", then sort by "modified" and so on?

Also I can't quite work out if it does or not, but does FVS support multiple column sort ?

Yes, FVS supports secondary sort. Just to remind you, apart from the primary sort you can hold Shift and click on another column to sort by that column. This is remembered by FVS.
