ShellDrop failed

hello,

I posted this question a few months ago but never got an answer. I use 7zip to zip up my files and periodically, I will add new files to an existing archive, but xyplorer doesn't let me add files by simply drag and drop to the archive, I keep getting droptarget error like this:

With the latest beta, I even tried to add zip (.zip.) to the custom target drop but still no luck. Anyone has solution to this? Thanks.

I can confirm that this behaviour exists. I even created a PFA for zip files to use 7zip, but to no avail. With WinZip it works fine though.

I wish I knew, but currently I have no clue why this function can fail (supposing the dropping works in Explorer).

Digging up an oldie here :) In Explorer, it's not even possible to right-click drag files onto an existing RAR file, even if an archive isn't locked. You should be able to disable this. LMB drop is the opposite -- works in Explorer, fails in XYplorer. However, if I open an archive in WinRAR and DnD a file from XY into WinRAR, works like a charm. So, when WinRAR fetches a file from XYplorer, it's all good. I tried 7.30 from the freezer and it's present there too. So it's a bug that has been around for a few years. If you cannot solve it (debug mode time?), can you disable LMB DnD onto RAR archives altogether then? It's better for it not to work than to not work and throw a meaningless pop-up.

Well, LMB and RMP DnD onto RAR works here (XP). Seems to depend on the system.

I won't rule it out. Judging by the fact that RMB DnD onto RAR is disabled in Explorer in Win7 (no Vista image to hand to test), it's probably for a good reason. My speculation is that Microsoft may have tweaked that interface (IDropTarget) in Win7. I have tried other file managers and it works fine there, which confines it to XYplorer. I know you're loaded with XYcopy 2.0 at the moment, so can we pick it up afterwards?

It's probably connected to 64bit.

You may be right. I tried 32-bit variants of those FMs and they aren't so keen all of a sudden. Another reason for XYplorer to get a 64-bit sibling ;)
