catalog/search removable media list?

I have hundreds of cd's of files that I need to be able to search by manufacturer, file name, etc. and use xyplorer to do it. How do I go about creating a searchable database of all of the cds? I tried using my forum subject topic in the help file, xywiki, this forum, etc, but I found no exact matches. I am currently using Simple Disc Cataloger but the interface leaves much to be desired. I know xyplorer must have the capability but I can't seem to find it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi and welcome to the XY forums!
Having said that, I have to say that I believe XY and Simple Disc Catalog serve two totally distinct functions...and that XY doesn't have the features that you may need for this function, simply because XY is for files currently ON-line....and OFF-line is more of a cataloger pgm thing, ok?
XY doesn't maintain a directory of what files are where, but relies on the current directories available...and off-line CD's thus are unknown.
Sorry to tell you that, but as you know, not all pgms can do everything so sometimes you have to use multiple tools, ok? Now for working with file that are on you hard drives or attached removable media, XY can't be beat, IMHO, so you still hopefully will find it worthwhile!

Thanks for the reply. No problem - It just seems that xy can do everything else, I thought I was overlooking the obvious, lol. I'm sure I'll find plenty of reasons to use xy.

Welcome to XY!
JC answered most part of your question and he is right in saying that there is no offline storage of files for later searching (a database).
Having said that you can use the "report" feature from info panel and create reports of your CDs in format such as CSV (which is quite handy). More about creating reports
here.
Another (more powerful) way is to use scripting command report(). After you do some reading and testing you will be able to generate detailed reports with a simple push of a button. Read about it
here.
Again, these methods will not create a database, but will create text, CSV or other files containing all your files' information such as filename, path, size, date created etc etc.

Thanks for the response. I did find it very handy creating a csv report and viewing it in open office calc - much more detailed than the other disc catalog report I have been using in the past. I'll experiment and see how else I can massage the data. Thanks!
