starting different folders in different instances

Hi,
I'd like to sometimes open a folder next to the one I have currently in view. Not in a new tab, next to it, so I can visually compare the list of files I have in one and another folder. The tab system precludes that. I guess that a multiple instance kinda config tweak (command line switch?) may allow me doing that... any idea?
Thanks,
Max

Welcome to XY,
That feature (side by side view of two folders) is called dual pane and will be implemented in the very near future (v8 according to latest information). So: currently there is no way to view two folders at once (in the same instance) but you won't have to wait long until it gets implemented.
PS: of course, like you also mentioned: you can open multiple instances of XY by enabling the "Allow multiple instances" option under "Tools | Configuration... | Startup & Exit".

Thanks Pagat,
I look forward to the next version!
Now, I can't get XYplorer to open in a new instance even when I click "Allow multiple instances" option under "Tools | Configuration... | Startup & Exit".
Is there something else I should know about it?
Btw I run xy by double clicking folders on my xp desktop (I changed the registry as needed for it to replace my ms explorer).
Thanks,
Max

Hm... does it work if you open the exe directly (twice)?

Nop, it just doesn't want to open 2 xy side by side...

After enabling option "Allow multiple instances" did you save settings ? I'm not sure, but you might have to for it to work/be taken into consideration...

Alright!
Thank you, I thought just pressing OK was enough for settings to be saved...

"OK" saves them to memory which is enough for most settings. But in this special case the setting must be written to file because the new instance needs to read that information from somwhere.
