Missing CDROM icon.

I hate to bum out anyone's trip here, but my CDROM icons are missing within XYplorer. They do, however, appear as expected in Windows Explorer. Yeah, I'm pretty serious here.
I've spent about 32 minutes trying to figure out why, but now I'm bored.
Cheers and thanks for any help. I guess it's not that big of a deal but I've taken it on as a bit of a "pet project."

Hi and welcome to the XY forums!
Can you provide some more clues, such as the XY vers and OS used?
And does it occur in any specific situation or always or what?

Hello j_c_hallgren, thanks for the welcome.
I am using XYPlorer version 7.90.0010 right now - but I have been experiencing the missing icons before I upgraded. My OS is Windows XP Professional 32-bit. This problem always occurs.
This happened after I tested a program called "Icon Packager" by Stardock Software. Perhaps you are familiar with it. After I uninstalled this program, I noticed the missing icons in XYPlorer. If I knew more about where XY is looking to find the icons, perhaps I could troubleshoot this one better myself.
Thanks!

The icons are provided by the system. There's nothing fancy about it. Are you sure that XYplorer is the only app that does not show them? Did you try a reboot?

My friends, you'll be pleased to note that I have fixed this problem by changing the drive letters of my optical drives. After I changed the drive letters, the icons appear as expected in XYplorer again - much to my delight.
An interesting point: if I change a drive letter back to what it was previously, the icon is missing again - and, again, only in XYplorer.
Finally, this trouble was created by the program "Icon Packager" by Stardock Software. I'm sure XYplorer was never to blame for whichever foolishness that caused it.
Cheers,
dc

Thanks for the info, good to hear. Still the differences between XYplorer and other applications (which did show the icons, right?) needs an explanation: it's probably because XYplorer uses extremely speed-optimized ways in some places. Theoretically I could offer an optional "non-optimized mode" that would probably have shown the icons -- but that would be a lot of work for me and who wants that anyway?

Yes, the icons did display correctly in other applications - but I must admit that the only other apps I used to check were Windows Explorer and ACDSee Photo Manager. If you'd like, I can do further testing with other file managers and report back. It's easy for me to recreate the state under which the icons are not displayed; all I have to do is change the drive letter back to what they were before.

If you haven't heard of this issue before, I wouldn't worry too much right now. Perhaps I can figure out exactly what Icon Packager did to my icons from their support and that will give us more insight.

The icon did not display correctly in FreeCommander, xplorer² lite, WinRar, and 7-zip. The icon did display correctly in Directory Opus and Power Archiver.

Thanks for finding out.

I wanted to take the time to post the final solution to this problem. The problem was that Icon Packager had left entries under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Explorer/DriveIcons. There was an entry for each drive letter that had been modified. They were pointing to a now nonexistent dll. Once I deleted these entries and logged-off/on, everything was back to normal.

Appreciate that you did so, as we often have threads that don't have a "solved" entry like this, and it makes it easier for others who who run into same issue...thanks!
