System Context Menus?

Hey,

I've been an XY user for about two weeks, and while I love it for the most part, I'm having difficulty finding what's happened to some context menu entries. Specifically, in the standard Windows Explorer, 7-Zip has a few entries for extracting archives I've right-clicked on, and Notepad++ has an entry for opening any file for editing. In XYplorer, neither of these appear.

I've hunted through the options to no avail looking for something to show these options. Am I missing something obvious or am I going to have to get used to not having them anymore?

Much thanks,

Max

You are on 64 bit? In that case you have to install the 32-bit versions parallely to the 64-bit.

Yeah I'm on 64 bit Vista.

Do you mean I need to install two versions of each app? I have the 64 bit version of 7-Zip installed, and I'm pretty sure Notepad++ only comes in 32 bit.

Curiously, the "Scan with Sophos Antivirus" entry does show up, as does Winamp's various entries.

I think it depends on the app. The point is that they must support the 32-bit context menu. Should be in the apps' configuration... Ultimately it's some registry entries in the right place.

Others might provide more detail here.

OK, thanks for the explanation. I might try uninstalling 7-Zip and installing the 32 bit version. Notepad++ is definitely a 32 bit app though, so you'd think it would support 32 bit context menus by default, or am I missing something again? :)

I'd think so too. Don't know what's wrong with it... :?

This just gets stranger and stranger! I uninstalled the 64 bit 7-Zip and installed the 32 bit version. Now the context menus show just fine in XYplorer but not at all in Windows Explorer!

Ho hum, at least it's working better than it was.

It is the responsability of the app in question to add two shell extensions to the registry, one for 32 and one for 64. Or you install both versions of the app. Or you use the 32-bit version of Explorer (located in SysWow64), because the 64bit Explorer cannot show 32bit shell extensions.

Yay, I fixed Notepad++ by downloading the 32 bit Explorer Context Menu Entry (halfway down the download page), overwriting the 64bit DLL that was installed with the one in the zip, and then re-registering it. :)

Thanks for your help with this. As an aside, are you planning to release a native 64 bit version of XYplorer at any point?

At some point it will have to happen but I will do some other things first. Read: Not any time soon.
