yes, of course.
but the .xps file extensions are associated with the xps viewer on open, much more faster than IE.

Can you send me an XPS file for testing?

Cannot upload .xps files on the forum. I pm you.
Cannot send files on the PM form.

tell me how to do it, or give me an e-mail address.

Or follow this link. In the center of the page, there is a .xps to download

The link does not work for me. You find my email address on http://www.xyplorer.com/contact.htm

Come on, all you have to do is removing "link" from the end of the url. > Here you go.

Okay, that helped. :)

I found out that XPS is an undercover ZIP-archive, and IE (at least IE6) cannot preview it. This means: forget it, no preview for XPS in XY.

From: http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/xps/viewxps.mspx
View XPS documents.
Integrated into Internet Explorer (version 6.0 or higher).
Supports Rights Management and Digital Signatures.
Includes Microsoft XPS Document Writer for XPS creation.

To see the complete feature list of Microsoft XPS Viewer click here.
For more information on Microsoft XPS Viewer (Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0) click here.
Meaning you need to install NET framework and an add-on on IE7. What is the connection between XY and IE6? BTW it is IE7 now and soon IE8 (now Beta2). XPS is the MS Portable format. It can't be ignored (like it or not). I think it is to put on the wish list for the next release?

To verify: IE supports .xps, *if* .NET 3.0 is installed?
I think Don will not like that...

Because IE6 is the least common denominator of the various OS's that XY supports.

True, but W2K doesn't support any higher than IE6...and I'm limited to W2K on this system, ok?

There are a large nbr of formats that XY does not support, since they can't be viewed via the interface...and it's Don's decision as to which fmt to support, if at all, and when, not one user to the forum, ok? There are more critical things on the roadmap that will have benefit to most all users, not just a select subset who use a particular file format.

Tip: There's a tweak to add any extension to the preview that uses IE as engine. Try this:

1. Open XYplorer.ini
2. Look up key: OfficePreviewCustomExtensions
3. Add XPS like this (both dots!): OfficePreviewCustomExtensions=.xps.
4. Save XYplorer.ini
5. If XY is currently open, do Restart without saving (in menu File); else just start XY.

Now, you can try to preview an XPS file. If IE can view it, XY can view it, too.

What are you talking about? It is not Don, you or I who decides, it is just the market and since XPS is the MS's portable format and XY is a commercial app it has to follow.

I am not found of PDF or XPS, but it is unavoidable (at least in the corporate/admisitrative world). These formats (I would say PDF for inter-exchanges and XPS for exchanges in a same company) became so popular for the simple fact a user can type a letter or a report in direct formatting (i.e. using no formatting) and then convert his/her paper into a portable document (the cheap trick  )

maybe in your line of work you and can be selective, and I am happy for you if you can, but as soon as you receive attachments from different venues (particularly from casual or corporate users or administrations), the majority the documents you will get will always be in PDF or XPS format
