It's really cool what you did with the file renaming capability of Tracker!

As it is now, if I want to rename "MyFile.txt" to "MyFile_01.txt" I hit F2 and all text to the left of the dot is selected...great! Then I hit one of the arrow keys to get rid of the highlight, but now the cursor is one character away from where I want it and I have to hit the opposite arrow key to get the cursor to the left of the dot.

Is there any way for Tracker to "eat" the first arrow key press or something so it unselects the text, but leaves the cursor in the same spot? I know this seems like I'm nitpicking, but it would be a nice enhancement.

No, those things should not be touched. These are holy interface rules since the beginnings of graphical user interfaces. So, I'm afraid you'll have to do left arrow, right arrow.

Just because everyone else does it doesn't mean it's the best way. I've seen other apps do it and I've liked it...seems like a good thing to have as an option.

I did not say it's the best way. Just that it's untouchable.

A possibility would be: have no selection after F2 but just position the cursor left of the dot.

Hmmmm...but then there are those times when you want the text to be highlighted. Since nobody else has chimed in about this, you should probably leave it as is.

I like that idea, assuming the normal cursor key operation then Shift+Home would select the basename.
