Temporary change to sort order

I often find I need to temporarily change the sort order for a directory (say, to quickly see which is the latest file in a directory), but
not make that change permanent. I know I can just switch the sort back the way it was before, but I'm getting old, and I'm prone to forgetting
Is there any way of changing the sort order "temporarily"? I'm not entirely sure what I mean by "temporarily". so this is a bit of a vague question, but "until I change folder in this tab" is probably close to what I'm after.
So, I'm in C:\Data, and I switch sort order to be by date. Then, I go to C:\Apps, and I want the sort order to automatically go back to what it was before I changed it. Can that be done?
Thanks,
Paul.

a few months ago "Folder View Settings" were introduced. You can enable it via "View | Folder View Settings | Enable Folder View Settings". Afterwards you can save a folder view as default (a folder view contains sort order among other things). Now, when you change the sort order in a folder it will not be permanent. If you browse away to a different the standard sort order will be applied again.

Ah! I hadn't thought about folder view settings this way round, I'd been thinking of them as a way of saving specific settings for a given folder (which is not what I wanted). That's exactly what I wanted - thanks a lot!
Looking a bit more at folder view settings, I see that you can save a default as well as settings to apply to specific folders. It strikes me that another useful option would be to have "named" views, which could be applied (so I could save my favourite combinations of settings for reuse). I don't think this is possible at the moment - if not, maybe it would be something that could be added in a future version?

Yep, these kind of "view templates" are not supported yet but were already mentioned as a nice-to-have. I guess eventually this feature will be implemented in FVS 2.0 but as Don just stated in a different thread: Some other big things will come first. Let me quote him:

This is indeed planned for a future version (and the fundaments are already built into right now, waiting in the ground...). But first the current state has to "ripen". I found out that it's a good idea to leave a feature alone for a couple of months so that the dust can settle. Then maybe enhance...
