"Go to Application path" always takes you to XYplorer's install directory, so why not rename it to "Go to XYplorer's install folder"?
Also, "Go to Script Files" would sound much better if it was called "Go to Script Files folder".
Just a couple of little tweaks to eliminate ambiguity

What ambiguity?

Just my $.02 but I agree with Don here...When you see where they go once, it's obvious if it wasn't before.

Currently it says "Go to Application path". What application? What if you have a folder with an application in it already selected in list view? "Go to XYplorer's folder" is much more precise and therefore better. Also, "Go to Script files" directs you to XYplorer->Scripts, so "Go to XYplorer's Scripts folder" is much more accurate. There's enough space there...

Well folder is a new term to me and not one I like that much as it was always a directory in my programming days, but then again the masters of ambiguity are MS who just invent and change as they please - are you using docx or doc files - IE or Firefox and which is to the correct standards and which standards - ambiguity exists all over but XY is, I think, the least offender

Well "directory" is a bit long, and "dir" is too short, so "folder" is a in-the-middle kind of thing. Also, getting IE or FF to change something is a great deal harder than XY, you gotta admit...

Okay, I agree that "Go to XYplorer's Folder" and "Go to XYplorer's Scripts Folder" sound nice and user/newbie friendly. I would do it. Does anybody see a problem here?

PS: In case XY's folder is not the app data folder, should there be "Go to XYplorer's Data Folder" in case of the current "Go to Application Data"? "Data Folder"?..., hmmm...

I don't know, I don't see a problem with "application path" really. Sounds to me like a simple, common & standard name for the path/folder of an application, and it's always been referred to in XY as app path & app data path, why change?
ivan wrote:Currently it says "Go to Application path". What application? What if you have a folder with an application in it already selected in list view?
I'm sorry but I don't see any ambiguity here. What application? Of course XY! What else? I mean come on, if you're using any app and it stops responding, and a message says "the application is unresponsive" so you wonder what app? If you see in some about box or whatever "application version number" do you wonder which app? Would anyone really assume that just because some app is selected on List, XY would have analyzed that, determine it was an app and allow you to go the its app path, assuming that wouldn't be the current folder and XY could somehow determine where that would be ??

I could see why using "Application Folder" could maybe sound "better" then "Application Path", maybe, but given how app path is a common thing, how it means the same (hit Ctrl+G and see how you can enter a "path", it's standard terminology), and how it's always been referred to as app path elsewhere in XY for years, starting with <xypath> (not <xyfolder>) and how the Application Data Path is another term in XY (ADP, set under [Appdata] as Path in a file located in the app path), I really don't see a change required here. I would even say the current way is more consistent...

For Scripts on the other hand yes, "Go to Scripts Folder" might be better.

Actually, "Go to XYplorer's Folder" is more ambiguous than "Go to Application Folder" because you can have any number of XYplorer's installed in different locations and running simultaneously. So which XYplorer is it now? Whereas "Application" is clearly self-referential and non-ambiguous (unless you are schizo).

Folder, however, might indeed be the better word than path, because "going to a path" is a weird metaphor. And throughout the documentation I use "folder" or "location" for the actual location, and "path" for the full name of the location. So, since you do not go to a name but to the thing, it should be:
"Go to Application Folder"
"Go to Scripts Folder"
"Go to Data Folder"

Since there is one folder per each installation then I would see it as being logical that it would take you to the folder of the installation that is currently running. I don't see how people who are running multiple XY's at any one time (and therefore know what they are doing) can expect anything different.

Well, I still like "Application Path" best because it is more consistent with <xypath>, and really I've seen used elsewhere people asking for or going to application path, installation path, etc referring to the actual folder, not just the full path/name of it.
admin wrote:throughout the documentation I use "folder" or "location" for the actual location, and "path" for the full name of the location
hmm.. really? That is how you interpret this:
Help file wrote:You can set application data path to any location you like by manually creating and editing a file called "startup.ini" in the application path.

If you use startup.ini then these are the only files located in application path.

The data are stored in a file called "Catalog.dat" located in the application path.
Cause to me, sounds like you're referring to the actual folder there, when you say "application path" not just the full name of it... unless those files in stored in a full name, not an actual folder? :P ;)

But yeah, I guess App/App Data/Scripts Folder is fine. I would however use "Application Data Folder", not just "Data Folder".
