Dragging a single .heic file stalls ~2.5s before the drag starts

Post by dsl101 »

Environment:
XYplorer 28.30.0600 | Windows 10 Pro, 64-bit, Version 22H2, Build 19045.7291 | Screen Scaling 100%
HEVC Video Extensions + HEIF Image Extensions installed.

Issue:
In a plain Details view, click-and-drag of a single .heic file to the other pane stalls ~2.5s (sometimes longer) before the drag even begins. The drag indicator (text-only filename, no thumbnail) frequently never appears at all, or only shows up if I keep moving the mouse and drift back over the source pane. Every other file type I've tried (PDF, JPG, PNG, etc.) drags instantly. So the stall is specific to .heic and happens at drag initiation.

What I've already tried which made no difference:
  • Preview pane is not open (toggling it makes no difference).
  • Info pane is not visible (toggling makes no difference).
  • Removed .heic and .heif from Previewed Formats (Image Files list).
  • Preview delay set to 3000ms.
  • ThumbsShell = 0.
Windows Explorer (Large icons) shows these same files as thumbnails instantly and drags them instantly.

previewcheck; on the file shows every working method landing at around 2.5s, which seems to match the drag stall, but I don't know for sure if it's related since there are no previews visible...

Code: Select all

Preview Check: E:\dl\outside.heic
+ n - preview loaded in 2.57 secs
- p - preview failed in 4.6 ms
- p32 - preview failed in 3.2 ms
- p64 - preview failed in 4.0 ms
+ t - preview loaded in 2.58 secs
+ tf32 - preview loaded in 2.57 secs
+ tf64 - preview loaded in 2.58 secs
+ te32 - preview loaded in 2.46 secs
- tg32 - preview failed in 618.0 ms
The only thing I noticed which does help is if I select the file, then wait 2–3 seconds, then drag (the same file), the drag starts instantly. Happy to test things / provide other info if required.

Thanks!

Edit: I also just noticed that selecting multiple files using the keyboard (shift+up / down) also stalls as soon as I hit a .heic file.

Could it be related to MDBU? Try to untick this:
Configuration | Preview | Mouse Down Blow Up | Mouse Down on Thumbnails and Icons | On left mouse down

If that doesn't help try to untick these:
Configuration | Information | File Info Tips & Hover Box | Show file info tips
Configuration | Information | File Info Tips & Hover Box | Show Hover Box
