'show thumbnails in tiles view' - way to ignore folders with custom icons?

When 'show thumbnails in tiles view' enabled, it gets aliased:

however, disabling it disabled every other thumbnail too. Is there a way to get it to show thumbnails on anything except folders?

These are icons, not thumbnails. What would you like to see instead of the icons?

The icons - for some reason applying that setting scales them a bit and causes aliasing (jaggies).

This varies from icon to icon, size to size, Windows to Windows. Do the icons of the same size look better in Explorer?

it matches appearance of the 64px tiles when turning off thumbnails in xyplorer:

icons have 64px size available:

Ah, I see. So XY can do it, but for some reason doesn't when in tiles mode.

XYplorer version?
Windows version?
Screen scaling?
