I have a group of folders where the "top" one is a date, or a date plus a name, and photos inside. I turned on branch view (see screengrab), selected a few, and tried the following rename special: <folder> - <datec> - *
The preview shows me that it will work as desired (see screengrab), but when select rename now, it gives me an error message for each of the selected files.
What am I doing wrong?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

: in paths / file names are not allowed (apart from the first one after a drive letter), hence it fails

I wonder why this didn't come up earlier.

Why not use this to handle it gracefully?

I added the "-" (no quotes!) where you indicated.
Does not seem to make any difference. Same error message...

In the next beta, Rename Special will obey to Configuration | General | Sort and Rename | Rename | Auto-replace invalid characters and use this character as replacement: Configuration | Colors and Styles | Templates | Dropped Messages | Character to replace invalid characters in dropped messages

1. Get v28.00.1217: viewtopic.php?p=234548#p234548

2. Tick "Configuration | General | Sort and Rename | Rename | Auto-replace invalid characters"

3. Enter a replacement character (or leave it empty to simply remove the invalid characters): Configuration | Colors and Styles | Templates | Dropped Messages | Character to replace invalid characters in dropped messages
