File search not working in Nextcloud folder

Hi,

I have a file in C:\Users\<id>\Nextcloud and when I search from C:\ or C:\Users using the standard mode it does not return the file. I have include subfolders and Name checkboxes enabled. I have made sure the Nextcloud folder is not in the excluded tab.

However when I explicitly specify C:\Users\<id>\Nextcloud it returns the file. Does the search use Windows MFT to return the results and Nextcloud is not part of it or is this something else?

Version: 28.00.0705.
Win 11

Thanks.

Hi,

try if ticking this makes a difference: Configuration | Find and Filter | Find Files & Branch View | Find Files | Follow junctions

Yes, that helped and I can view the files in the search results. Just for my understanding, the folder is listed as a folder and not as a soft link so why wouldn't the search go inside the folder until the checkbox was enabled?

Thanks a lot for the help.

One of the folders (probably Nextcloud) in your path has the FILE_ATTRIBUTE_REPARSE_POINT (aka Junction) attribute. Microsoft abuses FILE_ATTRIBUTE_REPARSE_POINT to mark cloud folders.
