Ok, I have to admit: This might sound somewhat crazy.

I imagine this feature working like a real Special Rename with Move on Rename... So the base is some kind of Search-Replace action resulting in a Replace, usually including Moving into Subfolders... That's something we already can do...

But in my place, the Search-Replace including sorting into subfolders is only done visually in some kind of virtual folders...

I'm not entirely sure if it should work similar to Paper-Folders or (probably cached) Visual Filters... The result shouldn't be permanent... If any file operations would result in the non-renamed files or renamed files being copied or moved is something I'd leave to you.


I know, you're quite busy now with rewriting XY to TwinBasic, so I'm not at all expect this to be something added soon(tm)...

First of all, I'm just curious if this sounds interesting to you (or anyone at all) or if I'm just nuts.

And what speaks against paper folders with allowed zombies option?

I'm not against Paper Folders... But I'm not sure it would display like real folders with "fake" names, etc... I don't know how Don might consider adding something like that. I don't think something like this is already there.

Remember: Inside my "fake" virtual folders, the files do have virtual names (which might or might not be identical to the real names).

And I doubt, I can Regex Move-Sort into Paper Folders, can I?

Only after files have been virtually renamed and sorted further file operations are supposed to do permanent changes (most likely using the new filenames)...

I'm thinking about options including zipping those virtually renamed File/Folder-Structures, too, if that's possible at all.

Doing real actions on fake virtual names, no, something like this is not present.
Neither with paper folders nor with virtual folders.
