Recent Issues With Alt+Shift+S Hotkey

i have the hotkey alt+shift+s assigned to "backup application data folder". as of sometime in the last month or two, it no longer triggers. i'm on 27.00.0800. I know alt hotkeys are notoriously finnicky, but it's just odd because it's been working fine for a long time (several years) and suddenly it isn't. I saw a recent bug report about issues with alt + down functionality in dropdowns -- not sure if this is related to that and the general fussiness of alt hotkeys.

When i go to edit the hotkeys menu, if i press alt+shift+s in the 'new shortcut' box -- nothing happens as if it's not registering the key presses. it recognizes other alt + shift combos (alt+shift+k works fine) and alt+s without the shift also works fine, but for some reason it acts like i didn't type anything when i try alt + shift + s .

To experiment, i used AHK to remap alt + shift + s to fire ctrl + alt + shift + k when i have an XYPlorer window open, and then i made alt+shift+ctrl+k a hotkey for the backup app data folder command. with that AHK script running, i can hit alt + shift + s and it triggers the correct command -- so it doesn't seem to be an issue that my keyboard isn't recognizing alt + shift + s, but rather that xyplorer specifically isn't recognizing it.

Have tried on a few different machines -- including one with only the bare minimum system processes running to rule out conflicting hotkeys -- and i'm facing the same issue on all of them.

Not a big deal -- the AHK workaround is pretty seamless -- but i just wanted to report the issue in case it is symptomatic of some broader issue.

thanks as always for the best utility ever!

No problem here with pressing alt+shift+s in the Press new shortcut: field with that XY version...

huh. odd. i'll try it from a full-on safe boot when i get a minute. i tried to close all possibly conflicting programs but i haven't yet done a proper safe boot to try from there.

i should add -- i already have alt + shift + s assigned to the backup app data folder command from back in the day when it worked. but still, with other hotkeys i can still type it in the new shortcut box and it just tells me it's alreaady assigned to something else. But for alt + shift + s, even though it's assigned, xyplorer just doesn't recognize that i'm even hitting those keys.

And that’s exactly what’s happening here when I‘ve assigned that shortcut to a different entry before

after further investigation -- this problem isn't limited to xyplorer. i noticed i get the same behavior in other programs that allow me to set custom hotkeys. so if anyone happens to have any general thoughts, i'm all ears -- but otherwise, i'm not holding my breath on this thread. thanks!

i cannot for the life of me figure out what's blocking alt+shift+s all of a sudden (i'm on a windows insider build so maybe it's just a bug) -- but i can at least say it's not related to xyplorer. i'll just keep using the AHK workaround for the time being and maybe it'll sort itself out at some point.

This sounds like an app is running that captures that event before any other app and doesn't put it back onto the stack

yep agreed that's where i landed as well. havent been able to figure out what it is, even when i boot without startup items and only system services enabled. i suspect it's from stupid windows bloat like the xbox game bar or something. ive tried all the obvious potential culprits, but no dice. oh well, c'est le vie!

if i use ahk to do a controlsend, for most apps, i can just have ahk capture alt+shift+s and then use controlsend to pass the same key combo directly to the active window using controlsend. that method doesn't work in xy for some reason, but it's fine since i can just remap the hotkey within xy and then i can just use ahk to capture alt+shift+s and pass it as the new key combo to xy.

anyway, yea it's pretty clear to me now that this issue has nothing to do with xy. so just disregard this thread. thanks for your thoughts!

fyi in case you're interested @highend --- ah ha! figured it out. it was the stupid visual search feature in ms edge.

i long ago toggled off the 'enable hotkey to use visual search' in my edge settings -- but evidently edge continues to capture whatever the hotkey was before you toggled it off. making matters worse, toggling that feature off DOES in fact stop the hotkey from actually doing anything. so, edge captures the hotkey and does nothing with it - making it very very hard to figure out where the issue is coming from...

sigh. c'mon microsoft.

in any case, i re-enabled the visual search hotkey, then re-assigned it from alt+shift+s to something i'll never use. and now i've got my alt shift s functionality back. woo!
