[RESOLVED] Custom icons not working?

Hello!

I have a weird thing going on. I really love the feature of being able to use our own icons for the customizable toolbar user buttons. These custom buttons are awesome! The one difficulty I have, though, is that they don't display the custom icons properly; which makes me wonder what I'm doing wrong ... :veryconfused:

Here's an example of what I have in one of the icon fields of a custom buttons:

Code: Select all

<xypath>\ICONS_Mine\Icon- FOLDER- Font 01.ico
I, of course, tried with the full path instead of the relative one, but the problem persists even after closing XYPlorer and launching it again after the edit. None of the custom buttons take the custom icon but all, instead, show the icon for my default icon editor.

(I wonder if perhaps the issue has to do with the dimensions of the icons themselves? I remember that many years back that was the case in on of the programs I used that required I edit the icons so that they were 16x16 pixel, XP with Alpha Channel, or whatever it was, as the icon format.)

Please let me know what the solution might be?

Thank you very much in advance for any kind help!! :)

State the XY version number?
Show the real full path of that .ico file?
Show a screenshot of the toolbar with such a button in view?

You need to reset your ico filetype association to default in Windows, your image viewer hi-jacked it, my preference is to do it manually via registry, but if you are not comfortable with that method then you can do it via Windows Settings.

I can't believe it! When I read this I stifled an outburst of laughter because, OF COURSE, an issue I'd forgotten about long ago when I first got on Windows 10 because I could never resolve it. My custom icons for MP3s, the images on the icons, all of it. So for the last few years, lost that. But since I'm not working in an office anymore (co vid changed a lot for many of us), I'd forgotten all about this.

I dusted off my reg files and tried all I know, but no go. Then I dubiously dusted off the context editor I was using since I switched to Win10 from WinXP about 6 or 7 years ago, because it stopped working some time back. But lo and behold, it didn't give me any trouble today and I have all my icons displaying properly again, including in XYPlorere!!!! Woo hoo!! (Will just have to open ICO files via OPEN WITH in context, I think. It's a portable app, but the instant you set the default to it via a context editor, it really does the job of replacing all icon images. And trying to fix this with my reg file that restores the images doesn't work here. And I don't know the steps to do so manually in regedit to leave the ico association intact while not having it take over! lol It's all good. Icon work is not something I do very often, anyway.)

Life has been so distracting in last few years, I'm just grateful that today's win is along many other small wins I've been fortunately achieving on small issues I've been tackling in last couple of weeks. Time to get life in order despite a dear family member being in palliative care for last 2 months that I visit daily. I'm just so grateful to have one more thing just a lttle bit easier to do. The little things help!

THANK YOU!! Gratefully appreciate the help in triggering what I should have figured out ... but that got lost along the way <lol>!!

God bless everyone!
