The last two upgrades I have performed have resulted in missing folder icons after XY restarts. I have to reboot the computer in order for them to display properly again.

How did you perform the upgrades? Manual download or self-update via Help | Online Support | Check for Updates?

I always update via the Help | Online Support | Check for Updates menu item. I don't know if this is relevant, but I also use the "portable" version. It is installed to a folder that I use for apps that support such a thing, not "C:\Program Files (x86)". OS is Windows 11 Pro.

Does it happen every time?

As I said in my initial post, it has happened after the last two upgrades. It had never happened previously, that I recall. I just upgraded on it different machine and the icons disappeared on that one too. So, that's three times now.

I meant: Does it happen every time after the last two upgrades?
Begs the question: Why only you?

I just tried it on a third computer and the icons displayed properly after the upgrade. This difference is that is a Windows 10 computer. Perhaps it is something specific to portable installations of XY on Windows 11?

Is it only the folder tree? What about icons elsewhere in the interface?

Apparently, it is just the folder tree.

Btw, you have a drive B?

Tested: no problems with portable installations of XY on Windows 11.

There is another user (via email) now with the same problem on Windows 10 Pro.

1) After you rebooted the computer the problem is gone until the next XY upgrade?
2) Does it make a difference if you uncheck this?: Configuration | General | Safety Belts, Network | Network | Assume that mapped network drives are available
3) If it happens again run this script through the address bar and post the results:
sysicons %SystemRoot%, 1, 1; Should look more or less like this:

The "B:" drive is virtual. It is a Cryptomator vault (
https://cryptomator.org). I will try your suggestion and let you know what happens after the next upgrade.

Good news: I could reproduce the bug and fix it.

Next beta.

Well, that worked. I unchecked that option, restarted XY and the icons are displaying properly again. No reboot necessary.
