Update Install used to work flawlessly and now for the past few months it no longer does

Over the past few months, when updates are notified/rolled out on my system, they will not install.
This feature used to work flawlessly. In fact, over the years the developer has honed this into a very simple process for licence holders – thank you.

Naturally, it would be great if I could track down why this problem is happening.

Whilst I know, something similar was posted at:
viewtopic.php?p=225818&hilit=version+update#p225818

However, that is not the fix this time. The user in that instance apparently discovered he had the program running multiple times as shown in his Task Manager.
I checked, and I have not got multiple instances running.

I get similarly to that user on attempting to update XYPlorer:
Error opening file for writing:
D:\Programs\xyplorer\XYplorer.exe
Click Abort to stop the installation,
Retry to try again, or
Ignore to skip this file

I disabled:
Malwarebytes
Microsoft Security Essentials

I thought it might be my antivirus software - but seemingly it wasn't this.

The fix in my case was to:
Go to XYPlorer downloads page
Download the zip package
Extract zip and double click the installer executable

However, it would be nice to have the updates going in ‘automatically’ [sic] as they always used to. To be able to do it that way is much faster and simpler.

The next time it happens open a cmd prompt, execute:

TASKLIST /FI "IMAGENAME eq xyplorer.exe"

and show the result

Thank you highend for the cmd to type in. I guess that cmd is a way to trace what is happening.

Good News!

I have just 'installed' XYpIorer 26.70.0400 on Wednesday 18th December 2024 i.e. the latest update/patch.

We are now back with the 'installs' going in automatically as they used to.

Thank you to XYPlorer Team for fixing this.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone
