XYplorer Beta Club

Group by option is a feature that all windows explorer users are used to, it really helps finding files and it is embended to almost all other similar products..
You should be aware that an easy to develop, simple to use feature might be a reject reason for an ordinary user like me and this is very important to understand and react!

Is this feature included in your plans?
I also call all users that do agree with me to support this request to make this explorer more user friendly.

In the meantime, you can use the alternate grid (in detail mode only).

It will alternate the color according to identical groups: for example, if the column filter is on the date, then the grid changes when the day changes.

Set grid:

Configuration > Colors and Styles > Highlights & Dark Mode > Grid style: Alternate Group

Change alternate color in:

Configuration > Colors and Styles > Colors > List > Grid

PS. All it need to do is add a line with the separation criterion (day / name / size etc) for the “Group by” function to work. And then do the same for the other list modes.

Here I've sorted on the Date column (Modified)
The color of the line changes with each change of day
Note that I've also set XY to highlight the column being sorted.

Dear Mark, thanks again for the reply but I still cannot figure out how I will setup XYplorer to visualize groups of files based on different types, for example I want to somehow have something to distinguish easily the word, excel, pdf, folders etc.. is that possible and how?

Sort by "Type" column?

Of course this is the easy way.. but this cannot be compared with the "group by" view of windows explorer which is much more clear and distinguisable..

@savvasgouno you should check out XY's visual and color filters = Explorer's "group by" is a piece of nothing compared to wast fields of distinguishing/grouping/sorting possibilities these features provide.

I would love to check all those features, but each time I start reading help files I couldn't understand anything at all !!! Sorry Mark but my time is so limited.. no way to spend it on endless "help" text that cannot really help as they are not written properly.. sorry for talking your time.. I will try to find other more easy-to-use solutions..

I too want this option. I want to be able to select a file type, or date etc from a drop down box option from the folder column list. so that only the desired files are visible in the folder window.
