Save your searches in a catalog?

Is this a feature that's already there but I haven't found yet?

I'm thinking along the lines of the kind of thing you can do with an Apple Mac Spotlight search: for example, I want to find all Word files on my computer; but if I search for them and save the resulting list as a category, it's a static list that doesn't take account of new Word files that are saved subsequently. With a Spotlight-type "save your search as a category" feature, the category would be updated dynamically.

As of now, the catalog does not update the searches, because a feature called "search results caching" has been wished for before and is on the XY's roadmap.
