Download file act same as MS File Explorer

When I download a file with Chrome or Edge, when it is done, I see an open folder icon in the upper right dialog.
When I click on that open folder icon in the upper right with Windows/File Explorer from MS, the downloads folder is opened and the file is highlighted.
With XY, the file is not highlighted. All it does is open the downloads folder and I have to go hunt for it.
Mirror what MS does.
Go one step further, auto select the unblock check box on the right click > properties menu that is seen when content is downloaded. Control that with an option in case some users still want that unblock to be unchecked. Default said option to check the check box.

Not possible. This behavior is pretty much hardcoded work with File Explorer. But you don't have to hunt through the Downloads folder. Just sort it by Created date descending and your file will be at the top.

Hi jbruns2024,
there is
- a PowerShell cmdlet (command)
Unblock-File [1]
Code: Select all
PS > unblock-file -Path .\some_downloaded_file.txt
- or streams tool from SysInternals [2]
Code: Select all
> streams .\some_downloaded_file.txt
> streams -d .\some_downloaded_file.txt
Best regards, Markus

Edit: added SysInternals' streams command

Just disable the saving of zone information info, no need to unblock anything afterwards...
Code: Select all
REG ADD "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Attachments" /v "SaveZoneInformation" /t REG_DWORD /d "0x00000001" /f

I get that, it is just convenient that file/windows explorer will highlight the file in the downloads folder and XY seems to not be able to.

Some software adds an ID to this registry location for Hooking, but if multiple items are added, Explorer will not work properly or even crash, such as the taskbar.
The simple solution is to use an AutoHotkey script.
Code: Select all
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ShellExecuteHooks

Did you miss the part where Don (admin) said it's pretty much hard-coded in File Explorer?
