Sorting wish

Very glad for XYplorer. Sometimes I sort (click) on Modified Date to more quickly find my most recent files or folders. Doing so affects all files/folders on that drive, not just the one I'm in. I don't know if it's possible in Windows, but it would be nice if sorting only affected the current window or folder and not everything else. Thanks,

Your settings for sorting usually just stay with the current tab and should not affect any other locations - unless of course that is the only tab you use!
You could look into FVS (Folder View Settings) and set a general one, which would lead to whenever you change settings in the current tab and then switch to another location it would use the global standard again.

Thanks, but I'm not fully understanding your point. I use dual pane and have had "Enable Folder View Settings" and "Automatically apply default folder view" checked. I don't usually work by opening a new tab, since it will show the same folder. Rather, I might close the XYPlorer and reopen it from another folder's thumbnail on the same drive (I have a bunch of folder link thumbnails on my desktop). If before closing the program the first time, I've sorted on Modify Date, then when I reopen the program on the same pane and drive but a different folder, the Modify Date sort is still present. That's true whether I have any Folder View settings checked or not. In other words, the last sort holds between XYPlorer sessions, even with a different folder. Stopping that is what I'm trying to wish for (or find the workaround).

Did you also save the default folder view to your liking? Otherwise XY just retains your settings between sessions.

Closing & restarting XY every time you want to open a different folder sounds very cumbersome, you might want to look into favourite folders, tabs, tabsets and catalog to easily switch between often used locations.
If you want to keep using your folder links on the desktop, you could also set the desktop to be displayed in one tab and then Shift + Click on one of the folder links to open its location in a new tab, then close that new tab when done.

The point of my post was a wish that a re-sort, such as on modified date, was specific to the folder and not the drive, within a session or between sessions. That wish still stands.

No, closing and opening the program to access more frequently used ("favorite") folders from desktop links is not cumbersome at all. Since the links are together, it takes about 4 seconds. Setting up favorite folders would take at least a month of time of my way of switching, and wouldn't be any faster in use. All it'd do is eliminate some thumbnails from the lower corner of my desktop.

Hello, highstream!
Try this setting:
Tools|Configuration|General|Startup & Exit|Save Settings
Here uncheck 'Save settings on exit'.

Why do you all make it so complicated? It's two steps out of the box:

1) Set up the list the way you want it.
2) Click View | Folder View Settings | Define this Folder View as Default

Done. Now whenever you change the location (within the tab), the default folder view (including sort order) will be restored.

Maybe it's complicated because with my main drive open, when I go to Folder View Settings and, of course first Enable Folder View Settings, I find Automatically Apply Default Folder View checked, and that check won't budge.

The other thing about it, and what led to my OP wish (or request for guidance), is that with Folder View Settings enabled, when I sort on Modify Date and then open a folder, when I go back to the previous level, the sort is lost and has to be recreated again...and again and again if I'm running through folders that I haven't dealt with in awhile. OTOH, if I don't enable FVS, then I get the Modify Date sort no matter where I go on that drive, until I change it.
