I said I'd experiment with my XYplorer.ini tomorrow. I lied :shock:

It turned out that my MaxiTreePaths pointing to my network drive contributed to the freezing. I think it wasn't any path in particular, but the number of paths. The more MaxiTreePaths were pointing to my network drive, the longer the freeze would be. Experimenting with the number of paths, I got ~0.08s per network path.

Here are all the settings (so far) that need to exist in XYplorer.ini to causes freezes after moving/deleting files/folders:

RestoreMaxiTree=1
MaxiTreePaths="paths pointing to a network drive; ~0.08s freeze per path"

EnableCustomFileIcons=1
*\ /e><xypath>\XYicon_FolderEmpty.ico must be enabled

CBFINetwork=1

RestoreMaxiTree and the sheer size of this tree is an often overlooked factor in startup speed. (Why don't you use the Mini Tree anyway, it's so much better.)

But it has nothing* to do with the problem of this thread. I still don't see what has changed between 25.70.0000 and 25.70.0001 that would explain the delay in moving and deleting. :eh:

* well, almost nothing. After *any* file operation (not just move and delete), the tree takes longer to update if the tree is larger.

Or does your problem go away if you reduce the size of your tree??

As a side note, I have also updated from 25.70 directly to 25.80 and if I uncheck [*xypath><xYicon_FolderEmpty.ico] the problem is fixed.

Still unfortunate, of course, that the empty folders then no longer color up blue.

Yes, my MaxiTree is quite excessive. That's how I like it :biggrin:

The start-up speed doesn't bother me, since I have XYplorer running all the time. So, my MaxiTree only costs me 5 seconds every few weeks.
In 25.70, file operations did not cause a noticeable lag for me, neither on local nor on network drives. And in 25.80, copying is unaffected by the bug.

Thanks, @Rolando, for confirming that custom icons for empty folders might be involved in this. Do you have a network drive connected to your PC? Do you have a MaxiTree with many entries?

OK, I have a strong suspicion now (well, it's the only one I have, and it doesn't explain why you don't get a delay on copy operations). The next beta will remove this suspicious line of code. Let me know if it makes a difference.

I don't celebrate Easter, but I enjoy a holiday nonetheless ... I hope you do too, despite fixing bugs and compiling beta versions :biggrin:
Thank you so much for fixing the bug with v25.80.0007! Yes, deleting and moving files/folders does not cause XYplorer to freeze any longer ✨🎆🎇

Yes, 100%.
The delay was 5 seconds in my case. That's tolerable as a start-up time, with the MaxiTree as a benefit, but I would have posted a bug report had I experienced this delay previously :)

I hope Rolando's issues are gone with v25.80.0007 as well.

Your reaction to a MaxiTree with >100 entries on a network drive suggest that you didn't expect users to be that extreme. But, that is exactly why I love XYplorer so much. It's the only file explorer that gives me all the freedom I want :D :appl:

After some thorough testing, it turns out that things can stay as they are. The line in question was not only causing a lag, it was not even necessary. So everything is fine now :tup:
